The first two weeks of Patengah

The release

After working so much on Wiseguy Story we needed to have a game released. Vassili (Game Artist) had a match-3 concept on the back burner; we decided to go for it. We traveled to the south of France to develop it here is the story (bottom of the Timeline). We released the Android version on the 7th of June 2012, just before midnight, so the game was actually downloadable the 8th.

Get it on Google Play

As for today the 22nd the game was downloaded 2 346 time, so that is an average of 156 downloads by day.

The business model

We decided to publish Patengah as a free app.  So we had two choices: 1. Sell in-game goods or 2. Display some ads.

We thought our first version was not ready to sell virtual goods, so we went for the ads. We hate “intrusive ads” so the rule was simple: none of them!

Disclaimer: The “intrusive” factor of an ad is a very personal feeling; some people can watch ads before every Youtube video, whereas I can’t stand a single one of them!

We considered banners to be non-intrusive ads, so Admob was the first advertising network we went for.

We might add other advertisers or tweak the business model as the application changes.

Show me some Admob numbers

Let me remind you what Admob is. It is Google’s advertising network, specialized in mobile advertising, moreover it is the leader…

Advantages: The SDK is simple, the documentation is very important and the fillrate is excellent in US and Europe.

Drawbacks: Ads quality is irregular so the Click Trough Ratio is not the best.

Within 14 days:

  • 118 315 ads were requested
  • 117 546 ads were displayed
  • 458 ads were clicked

What’s next?

First of all this is just the beginning, so:

Then do you all remind the phone with a small apple on his back… or maybe you best remember of this tablet with an apple on the back. Yes, you get it the iOS version is under apple validation process so be prepared for more fun on iPhone or iPad. (We will tell you as soon as it release on the app store)

More to come on Patengah’s new features in another post.

Cheers, Philippe
